Iota Tales Privacy Policy
Effective October 22, 2026. Published by Iota LLC.
The short version
Iota Tales is a story game. Its optional AI runs on your phone, not on our servers. There are no accounts and no sign in. Your game is saved only on your phone. Iota LLC does not run any servers for the game and does not receive your game data.
The game can show ads through Google AdMob and sell one optional purchase through Google Play. Those services are run by Google and are explained below.
The AI runs on your phone
Iota Tales can use Gemma 3 1B, a small AI model made by Google, to write extra story text such as cards and captain's logs. The model runs entirely on your phone. What it reads (the story so far, such as card topics, crew names, your choices and the day number) never leaves your phone. You do not type anything to the AI, and nothing it writes is sent anywhere, unless you choose to email us a report about it (see below).
The AI is optional. You can play with only the handwritten cards, and you can turn the AI off or delete it in Settings at any time.
Reporting AI text
Every card, outcome, captain's log and recap the AI wrote has a Report button. When you report something, the game hides that text right away and shows the handwritten version instead. The report is saved on your phone and contains only the reported words, the reason you picked, where it appeared (for example the card's id and the day), the app version, the creativity setting and the time. It contains no personal information.
The game then opens your own email app with the report filled in, addressed to Iota LLC. Nothing is sent unless you press Send in your email app. If you send it, we receive your email address and whatever is in the email, and we use it only to review the report and improve the game's AI text checks. If your phone has no email app, the game shows the report as text you can copy. You can ask us to delete a report you sent by emailing us.
Downloading the AI model
The AI model is a one-time download of about 720 MB, which you start yourself on the first run screen or in Settings. The file comes from Hugging Face (huggingface.co and its file delivery servers). Like any website, Hugging Face receives a normal web request, which includes your IP address and the name of the app. No game data is sent. Hugging Face handles that request under its own privacy policy. After the download, the AI works offline.
What stays on your phone
- Your game. The current run, your best day, the rare cards in your Logbook, and your settings (such as the AI creativity dial).
- Purchase status. If you buy ad-free rerolls, the app keeps a note of the purchase so it can remember it.
- Your reports of AI text, if you make any (see above).
- The AI model file, if you download it.
All of this is kept in the app's private storage. None of it is sent to Iota LLC. Cloud backup is turned off for this app. If you use Android's phone-to-phone transfer, your saves may be copied to your new phone, but the AI model is not. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes all of it.
No account, no tracking by us
There is no account, no sign in, and no profile. Iota LLC does not use analytics or tracking tools in Iota Tales, and we do not sell your data.
Ads (Google AdMob)
You get 2 rerolls each in-game day. Each reroll can play a short rewarded ad, which you choose to watch. Ads are served by Google AdMob. When an ad is requested or shown, the Google Mobile Ads SDK in the app collects and shares data with Google for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention, including:
- your device's IP address, which can be used to estimate your general location,
- your Android advertising ID and app set ID,
- ad interactions such as app launches, taps and video views,
- diagnostic information, such as app launch time and performance.
This data goes to Google, not to Iota LLC. Google uses it under the Google Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy). You can learn how Google uses information from apps that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalization, in your phone's Android settings under Privacy, Ads. Where the law requires it, the app will ask for your consent before showing personalized ads.
Test versions of the game use a placeholder screen instead of real ads. The placeholder does not contact any ad network.
Purchases (Google Play)
Ad-free rerolls are a one-time $0.99 purchase made through Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment. Iota LLC never sees your card or payment details. The app receives only a confirmation of the purchase from Google Play and keeps it on your phone so the purchase works after the app restarts. Google handles purchase data under the Google Privacy Policy.
Children
Iota Tales is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will help remove it.
Your choices
- Play without the AI, or delete the AI model in Settings.
- Report any AI text you do not want to see. It is hidden at once.
- Reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings.
- Delete all game data by uninstalling the app or clearing its storage.
Because Iota LLC does not receive your game data, there is nothing for us to look up or delete on our side, except reports you chose to email us, which we delete on request. For data held by Google or Hugging Face, see their privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the game handles data, for example when real ads go live, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Big changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
